In my Post #6, I predicted that the group would splinter because of the problems of their hard-partying lifestyles. In short, I was partially correct.
Dean, Ed, and Carlo went their separate ways- in fact, the narrator doesn't see them for a full year!
However, they are reunited when Dean drives cross country with Ed to pick up Sal to go on another trip. I was extremely surprised when Sal agreed to go with them.
